Welcome to my Blog
It’s now been a little over a year since the 2024 provincial election. I have refrained from publicly commenting on issues because I held the embargo period very seriously. My comments now, which I will post approximately every month, are not directed at government directly but rather to create discussion with hope that leaders in government departments, health care sector, senior care sector and other related service providers can find solutions for government to implement.
There are many issues which have been top-of-mind for years, government in and government out. Primary Care, senior care, disability, family services and child protection, education and more.
I wonder how far have we really come? And why haven’t we got further?
Let’s start with Senior Care; a topic that has been at the forefront all of this year.
It’s been no secret, for decades now, that our senior population would balloon. We’ve always known in governments that we would never be able to build enough nursing homes. For at least twenty years we have talked about “aging in place” and keeping people in their homes as long as possible. Yet, nursing home wait lists and ALC challenges persist. I believe it’s because policies have not made “aging in place” viable.
On top of that, the 100-year-life is here. We’re not ready for it socially or economically.
Over the coming months I am going to share my perspectives and learnings. Never would I believe I have all the answers. But I will add my voice to the many respected advocates I have come to know and trust. My first blog will immediately follow this.
