Dorothy Shephard is a seasoned Canadian politician and community leader with over 14 years of public service in the New Brunswick Legislature.

Representing the Saint John Lancaster riding from 2010 to 2024, she held several key cabinet positions, including Minister of Health, Minister of Social Development, and Minister of Healthy and Inclusive Communities.

Born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, Dorothy's early career was rooted in entrepreneurship. She successfully owned and operated the Benjamin Moore Colour Centre, gaining firsthand experience in small business management. Her involvement extended to various business associations, such as the Saint John Women Business Owners and the Saint John Board of Trade.

In her political tenure, Dorothy was known for her visionary leadership and commitment to outcomes-driven policy reform. She played a pivotal role in cross-departmental collaboration, legislative innovation, and the development of major government initiatives, including

New Brunswick’s provincial Health Plan and the province’s first Children and Youth Wellbeing Act. In her time as Minister of Health, Dorothy championed New Brunswick’s COVID-19 response. She demonstrated her ability to lead during times of crisis with empathy, credibility, and a strong outcomes philosophy.

As she steps away from political life, Shephard brings a wealth of experience in governance, policy development, and community engagement. She continues to be a respected voice in discussions on public policy and social development in New Brunswick and beyond.
